Hello!
I am Román Torre, an artist based in Gijón (Asturias) and I work intensively with digital tools in a creative and collaborative way.
Artistically and conceptually, I am interested in visual and speculative narratives strongly inspired by science fiction. I try to recreate this situations consciously or unconsciously through objects, connected devices, installations and other series of artistic formats that allow me to enjoy a technical and visual investigation. This artistic view is always mixed with my personal interest in contemporary issues that surround us and that involve the human being in their technological, scientific and social environment.
Digital privacy, how the internet modifies our perception of reality, geometry, mathematical algorithms, climate change, physical phenomena at opposite and extreme scales, or how biology behaves in our nature, are issues that are not always pure and rigorously reflected in my proposals but which are usually there behind, like a color palette in my personal imagination.
Throughout my career, I had the opportunity to show my work and collaborations or receive public / private support/funding in various festivals, art centers, museums or national dance / opera stages, such as LABoral centro de arte, Museo national Reina Sofía or Matadero in Madrid and Mercat de les Flors, Design Hub or Sonar and LlumBcn festival in Barcelona. Outside of Spain I have also been working in the main cities of countries such as Egypt, Portugal, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Slovenia, France, UK and I have been able to present my pieces or collaborate with other theater companies in universities, festivals and city stages like NY (Columbia), Tokyo (Suntori hall) or Munich (state opera).
